They have a light lacquer coating for protection - a number of our customers have sanded / painted or varnished them successfully. back to top

What are slats and bunkie boards?
All of our bunks come with with a full slat kit, so no need for bunkie boards or bunkie mattresses. To provide sufficent support for a standard twin mattress, you need a minimum of 26 slats (13 for each bunk) or use a bunkie board or bunkie mattress. Bunkie boards are upholstered boards that look like a flat box spring - Bunkie mattresses have a bunkie board built in to the base of a twin mattress. back to top

Are the bunk beds made of real wood?
All of our bunks are made from plantation grown pine for strength and resilience. Real wood, no particle board or MDF (medium density particle board). back to top

What is needed to assemble the bunk beds?
Instructions and hardware are included in the headboard box - all you need is a screwdriver with a phillips head. back to top

What other tips do you have for the safe use of bunk beds?
An adult should always supervise childrens use of bunk beds:

• Prohibit children under 6 years of age on top bunk.
• Use guard rails on both sides of upper bunk.
• Use only the proper size mattress as recommended by the manufacturer.
• Ensure the thickness of the mattress and foundation combined is at least 5 inches below the top of the guardrails.
• Prohibit more than one person on the upper bunk
• Prohibit horseplay on or under the beds.
• Always use the ladder for entering and leaving the upper bunk.
• Never attach or hang items to any part of the bunk bed that are not designed for use with the bed. For example, but not limited to, hooks, belts and jump ropes.

Is there a weight limit?
The manufacturer does not specify a "weight limit", but we suggest 175 lbs on the top bunk and 200 lbs on the bottom bunk.The primary users of bunk beds are children, but we do recomend the use of a bunkie board to provide additional support for a heavy person. back to top

What size mattress should I use?
A standard twin mattress (39 inches x 74 inches x 8 inches) and or full size mattress (54 inches x 74 inches x 8 inches) will work with our bunks. Please follow the instructions on the warning label on the bunk as regards to the maximum thickness of the mattress. back to top
